One of the best things about two-strand twists is that they can be styled into almost any other coif achieved with straight hair - all it takes is a little planning and imagination! Keep crisscrossing hair all the way to the end, and you will be able to easily reverse the motion when it comes time to take the twists down. This incorrect motion, similar to the method used for Bantu knots, may seal the twist closed, but it also makes it hard to untwist the hair, leading to tangles and breakage. A lot of women are tempted to simply start “rolling” the ends of their twists instead of properly twisting them. Twist hair the same way from root to tip.

Thickening conditioners containing ingredients like balsam can help beef up thin locks. Use a leave-in conditioner to help boost shine and keep hair in tip-top shape. If not, mist hair with water from a spray bottle to keep hair from drying out completely. In either case, start twisting sections at the nape of the neck when your hair is about 50% dry by the time you work to the front of the head, you should have enough moisture left to set the hair on rollers and still get some effect. For curlier or relaxed lengths, this trick will add body, movement, and that bit of extra texture needed to make the look work. For naturally coily Type 3c or Type 4 hair, this will keep your twists from shrinking up, retaining a little length in your locks. Start with damp or semi-dry locks to get the most out of the style.Vary the size and shape of each twist to fit the length, texture, and thickness of the hair the resulting twists will fall in a more natural hair pattern. Real hair does not necessarily grow or fall in evenly-spaced rows of square boxes. Create a random pattern of partings for a more natural look.Smaller twists can be swept into ponytails, updos, and other styles more easily than larger ones. Part hair into smaller sections for a more natural, versatile look, especially if your hair is short. Here are some additional tips for great twists: Twists can then be rolled on foam or paper rollers or plastic rods to add body and/or curl. The hand motion is similar to turning double-dutch or braiding hair with two sections instead of three simply loop strands over each other over and over until you reach the ends of the hair. Double strand twists are made of two strands of hair crisscrossed or twisted together. *Disclaimer: This is my first how-to so please don't hesitate to ask whatever questions or offer suggestions that may be helpful. The name pretty much says it all. I generally tuck each piece into the opposite side and pin. At this point, you may have a little hang-time at the nape of your neck from the two sides. Repeat the same motion on the other side adjusting accordingly moving down towards the nape of your neck and pin.

Then twist the two strand twists with the next two strand twist section, working your way towards the nape of your neck and pin at the center. To get the crown affect, decide which side you want to work on first and have you bobby pins ready. So at this point there are 12 sets of two strand twists.

*Feel free to skip this step, but I will add that I've really liked watching the style progress from a more sleek look to a more textured look due to the rain we've been having over the last few days. I did this because whoever is braiding my hair moves a lot faster with the hair smooth at the root. I flat-ironed each two strand twist from the root to about halfway to the end of the section. Step 2: Stretch and/or smooth the section. I generally split my hair into 10-12 sections of two strand twists and I determine the part based on whichever way I want the style to fall. In the case of this style, I had just washed my hair so I had already blow dried it, and it was already paired off into sections. There are three ways that I typically stretch my hair: blow dry, flat-iron or bantu knot. Lies! It's SO easy that I wanted to do a quick how-to! A lot lol And I've had quite a few people tell me that they'd -never be able to do something like this. I was hoping to get my hair braided to give it a break from all the maintenance, but it fell through and and this style is what I came up with as a replace for a protective look. Hey guys! It's the funniest thing how it seems that the most random of hairstyles draw the most attention.
